Damage to the chimney can affect its various sections and is the result of long adverse weather conditions (rain, frost, wind), damage to aggressive combustion products contained in smoke, condensation of water vapor.
Often the need to modernize the chimney is caused by the replacement of the heating boiler, the installation of additional devices, for example, a gas water heater, or reconstruction inside the house.
You must remember that a poorly functioning or damaged chimney pose a potential threat to the health and life of residents. This can lead to the penetration of poisonous gases mainly by carbon oxide (soot) and lead to fires when the soot accumulated inside the chimney will light up.
In principle, the possibility of reconstruction of the old chimney is reduced to the repair of the site available above the roof and the introduction to the existing channels of the inserts of the chimney. On the other hand, in the case of closing the chimneys clip by fragments of brick, which are falling off or leading destruction of the walls of the chimney, the best solution would be to remove the smoke pipe down and replace it with a new, made from prefabricated elements, placed, for example, outside the house.
Chimney tightness test
The condition of exhaust gases, smoke or ventilation ducts can be checked after cleaning them and conducting a professional inspection using a camera lowered into the chimney.
If internal damage is detected, tightness, smoke or ventilation ducts can be provided by inserting pipes from other materials.
This will discharge smoke gases almost independent of the state and tightness of the existing chimney, which will only take on the facing role and will not be subject to further damage. However, channels designed to install inserts must have a sufficiently large cross section so that they can enter the pipe of the required diameter and maintain patency along the entire length.
As a rule, the transverse section of the insert for waste gases or smoke should be selected so that it corresponds to the cross section of the boiler or a fireplace insert for waste gases. Therefore, when replacing the heating source, it is necessary to take into account the conditions for its connection to the existing or modified duct.
