Red -haired turtle got its name thanks to a small red spot located in the eye area. The length of this type depends on the specific subspecies, but in general it is about 30 cm. The shell of the turtle with age is gradually covered with wrinkles and has a rather original look. Interestingly, the coloring of turtles has the ability to change over time. In young representatives of the species, it is most often greenish, and with age it gradually darkens and becomes black.
It grows gradually, during the first year of life, the turtle grows up to 7 cm, but then its growth slows down. During the year, the turtle grows about one and a half centimeters. At the same time, over the first two years of life in length, it can reach 20 cm, so the red -eyed turtle is unlikely to be considered dwarf, despite the fact that such an opinion is very common.
The birthplace of red -eared turtles is America. They are common throughout the continent. Live in small freshwater lakes with swampy shores.
The nutrition of red -eared turtles should be approached quite seriously. Throughout the first years of life, turtles prefer animal food. But they need to be fed no more than once a day. In addition, the aquarium ordered in the company of Aquadomik should be algae and living plants. The amount of feed is determined by the size of the turtle. The larger the turtle, the more feed she needs. Food for them must be of room temperature. Most often it is a fish, always raw, or pieces of low -fat meat. Exclusively dry food and gammarus are harmful to turtles, especially for young. Adults are more all -moving.
In the event that the aquarium is arranged correctly, there is an ultraviolet lamp, temperature regimes are observed, then additional vitamins are not required for turtles. In the event that there are no such conditions, then they need to regularly give vitamins. In many special feeds, they are immediately included in the composition.
Aquarium for a red -eared turtle is necessary quite long, but not too wide and shallow. The dimensions should be calculated so that the turtle can freely roll over in the aquarium. Water should be warm, not lower than 20 degrees. The presence of the so -called shore is also necessary. It can consist, for example, of stones. The turtle should be convenient to go out on it and there should be enough space to relax. Water should change regularly as it is polluted.
