To equip a custom Moroccan-style bathroom, you can spend both significant finances and a modest budget - it depends on the cost of the selected finishing materials. After all, style, with all its external simplicity, is very picky about the quality of coatings and the work of the craftsmen.

  • structural elements - arches, niches, ledges;
  • ceramic tiles with oriental patterns;
  • plumbing with forged elements;
  • necessary accessories (textiles, lighting).
  • Moroccan palette

    Natural cool and warm shades are evenly present in the Moroccan style, without competing with each other. The base is most often neutral:

      Tones such as:

      • blue in shades from turquoise to dark blue;
      • green, especially emerald, ultramarine;
      • purple;
      • red, including scarlet, fuchsia;
      • black.
      • Important! In general, the color scheme of the Moroccan style gives the impression of a positive and cheerful space, without overloading the perception and without tiring the eyes.

        Geometry features

        A Moroccan-style bathroom will become recognizable thanks to some structural elements that are easy to make even in a small room. One of them is an arch. Narrow and wide, horseshoe-shaped and pointed arches are used to decorate not only door or window openings, but also for a cabinet niche, mirror or shower, bath. Even a modest arched niche for a hanger looks appropriate in the interior of this style.

        Niches of different sizes complicate the geometry of the space, creating the intricacy necessary for oriental design, while the bathroom receives not only exquisite decor, but additional space. It is most convenient to use moisture-resistant drywall for the design of arches and niches. Sometimes niches and arches are distinguished by mosaic trim along the contour.

        Another opportunity to emphasize the eastern orientation of the interior is to make the ceiling domed or designate the vaults, drywall will again help with this

        Ceiling, wall and floor finishing

        In the Moroccan style, naturalness is encouraged, so the ceiling can be simply plastered and painted with waterproof paint in a neutral shade. With a sufficient budget for repairs, you can decorate the ceiling with a stretch film with a pattern or wood carved panels. Panels must be treated against decay and fungus, the presence of processing is usually confirmed by a certificate.

        Focused on wall covering. In this capacity, it is used:

        • a rough layer of plaster, covered with paint, imitating an adobe building;
        • decorative plaster with a glossy effect that creates the appearance of marble walls;
        • large ceramic tiles with oriental patterns;
        • small glossy mosaic up to 4x4 cm;
        • ceramic cubes measuring 2x2 cm, which are traditionally called zelij;
        • combined option.
        • To create the Moroccan style, tiles with traditional oriental ornaments are suitable, among them a geometric pattern prevails (octahedrons, stars, rhombuses, squares). Such tiles are interconnected according to mathematical rules, not chaotically. Tiles with a floral pattern look beautiful.

          Moroccan patchwork tiles look especially interesting. It is rather difficult to select tile patterns on your own, it requires impeccable taste, therefore, among the ceramics collections, you can pick up ready-made options for various ornaments in a variety of colors.

          When combining a plastered surface with ceramic inserts, you can get an interesting interior in which some areas (near the sink, shower) stand out with bright tiles.

          Stylish dark morocco

          Traditionally in Morocco, the floors are covered with stone tiles, which keep the room cool, but in domestic bathrooms, you must first install the "warm floor" system

          A frieze made of carved wood is installed at the joint between the ceiling and the walls.

          Important! Plastic products in a Moroccan-style bathroom are out of place.

          Traditionally in Morocco, the floors are covered with stone tiles, which keep the room cool, but in domestic bathrooms, you must first install the "warm floor" system. To save money, porcelain stoneware is often laid on the floor, which has excellent decorative and functional qualities.

          Features of the appearance of plumbing

          On a variety of photographs in the Moroccan style, it immediately stands out for its unusual design forms of plumbing. Since ancient times, the bathrooms of Morocco have been equipped with large round pools, recessed into the floor and lined with small mosaic tiles.

          Therefore, it is better to opt for a round or semicircular bathtub or shower stall. Ideally, if the bath is deepened, and you need to climb to it by several steps.

          The sink should be preferred:

          • round or oval;
          • made of copper or bronze alloy, stone or successfully stylized like them;
          • decorated with oriental ornaments;
          • built into a table or one that is placed on top like a bowl.
          • It's great if the sink evokes associations with the bowls for washing hands, traditional for eastern peoples, then the choice was made well.

            If it is planned to place a washing and drying machine in the bathroom, it is better to hide them from view, using niches or decorative protrusions for this. Modern technology does not harmonize well with ethnic styles, which include Moroccan.

            An important part of the interior is accessories

            The bathroom in the Moroccan style (the photos in our article offer different design options) is necessarily decorated with textiles and knickknacks. The effect is achieved not by the number of accessories, but by their correct selection and placement. What is needed to create an authentic Moroccan spirit:

            1. Textile. If the bathroom has windows - wonderful, they can be closed with thick textured curtains. It is easy to make a kind of a tent around a bathtub or shower stall from a waterproof fabric with oriental ornaments. Woven drapery separating a hanger or a place for a washing machine will also decorate the room. Rugs with ethnic patterns look great on the floor. Towels, bathrobes must be matched to the color scheme of the room.
            2. Mirror. A round or oval mirror is made in a wooden or copper frame; a fine ceramic mosaic edging is suitable.
            3. Lighting. You can create a style using just one bright touch - Moroccan lanterns. Slightly elongated bowl-shaped lamps are made of copper and decorated with carvings and colored glass inserts. Such lamps are suspended on sufficiently thick strong chains, either singly or several in a row. 1-2 wall lamps or candlesticks made of black or bronze forged metal fit perfectly into the bathroom interior.
            4. Furniture. A small amount of furniture is usually used in the bathroom, but if the size of the room allows, a low couch or a couch with many pillows will look appropriate. Such a sofa immediately creates an atmosphere of oriental bliss and luxury.
            5. Mirror decoration

              Furniture items (including a wardrobe or a chair) should be selected from dark wood, preferably from cedar, beech or thuja

              • forged elements;
              • carving;
              • mother-of-pearl inlays;
              • mosaic inserts;
              • hand-painted ethnic motives.
